Church Fundamental Beliefs
1. THE SCRIPTURES INSPIRED
The Bible is our all-sufficient rule for faith practice, conduct and beliefs.
The Scriptures, both the Old and New
Testaments, are verbally inspired of God and are the inerrant
revelation of God to man, the infallible, authoritative rule of faith and
conduct for the body of believers.
- 2 Timothy 3:15-17
- 1 Thessalonians 2:13
- 2 Peter 1:21
2. THE ONE TRUE GOD
The one true God has revealed Himself as the eternally self-existent "I AM," the Creator of heaven and earth and the Redeemer of mankind.
He has further revealed Himself as embodying the principles of relationship and
association as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
- Deuteronomy 6:4
- Isaiah 43:10,11
- Matthew 28:19
- Luke 3:22
3. THE DEITY OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST
The Lord Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, embodied fully God and fully man born of a virgin. The Scriptures declare: His virgin birth,
- Matthew 1:23
- Luke 1:31
His sinless life,
- Hebrews 7:26
- 1 Peter 2:22
His miracles,
- Acts 2:22
- Acts 10:38
His substitutionary work on the cross,
- 1 Corinthians 15:3
- 2 Corinthians 5:21
His bodily resurrection from the dead,
- Matthew 28:6
- Luke 24:39
- 1 Corinthians 15:4
His exaltation to the right hand of God.
- Acts 1:9, 1:11, 2:33.
- Philippians 2:9-11
- Hebrews 1:3
4. The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the trinity, it’s reassuring to know that the Holy Spirit is not a mysterious force.
He is a close Friend who will guide our lives and known as the Comforter. He is “the Spirit Himself” (Romans 8:16) — not “the Spirit itself” as in earlier versions.
There is ample evidence that the Holy Spirit is God. He has the names and titles of deity, the attributes of God, and does works only God can do.
And He is expressly identified as God. One example will serve: What the Lord said in Isaiah 6:8-13 is ascribed to the Holy Spirit in Acts 28:25-27.
All Christians are indwelt by the
Holy Spirit.
Romans 8:9 makes this clear: “But you are not in
the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if
anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.”
All those who have made Jesus Lord and Savior have the Spirit living within them, different from the second, separate work of grace called the baptism in the Holy Spirit.
Acts 1:8, Jesus
told His followers, “You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come UPON
you; different than within you.
John 16:13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth.
The Spirit’s guidance is available to every believer.
It is God’s desire that we be able to hear His
voice. Then we can say with confidence, “It seemed good to the Holy Spirit.”
5. THE FALL OF MAN
Man was created good and upright; for God said, "Let us make man in our own image, after our likeness."
However, man by voluntary transgression fell and thereby
incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death, which is separation
from God.
- Genesis 1:26,27, 2:17, 3:6.
- Romans 5:12-19
6. THE SALVATION OF MAN
Man's only hope of redemption is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ the Son of God.
Conditions to Salvation- Salvation is received through confessing with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Repenting toward God and faith toward
the Lord Jesus Christ. By the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy
Spirit, being justified by grace through faith, man becomes an heir of God,
according to the hope of eternal life.
- Luke 24:47
- John 3:3
- Romans 10:9, 10:13-15
- Ephesians 2:8
- Titus 2:11, 3:5-7
The Evidence of Salvation- The inward evidence of salvation is the direct witness of the Spirit. Romans 8:16
The outward evidence to all men is a life of righteousness and true holiness.
- Ephesians 4:24
- Titus 2:12
7. THE BAPTISM of water
Jesus made it very clear that one of the first steps in following Him is to be water baptized.
He told His followers. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit. MATTHEW 28:19-20
It
is an outward expression of an inward transformation.
A disciple is someone who follows Jesus and believes He is the only way to God and Son of God who was crucified on a cross—thereby making a way for sinners to be forgiven from the wages of their sin (death) walked out of His grave three days later and ascended to heaven.
He stressed the importance of water baptism, saying, Anyone who believes and is baptized shall be saved… Mark 16:16
8. holy communion
Holy Communion is an important act of worship, and a vital part of the believers’ walk of faith.
The Holy Communion, also referred to as the Lord’s Supper was instituted by Jesus Himself (Luke 22:17-20). Jesus emphasized its importance by instructing His disciple to participate in it regularly until He comes again. He instituted it during the celebration of the Passover feast.
In 1 Corinthians 11, Paul taught about the proper conduct of Holy Communion among other acts of worship. He pointed out the lack of unity among the Corinthian which became manifest even during the Holy Communion.
The situation degenerated and caused more harm than good. This happens today in churches as well. Many people who come to church to partake of the Holy Communion are not good in terms with others within the congregation.
Again, Paul criticized the Corinthian believers for their selfish behaviors, which he said was making a mockery of the Holy Communion and thereby destroying the sacredness of their worship and unity of the body.
Paul emphasized this with a warning against taking the Holy Communion in an unworthy manner. He said if we did, we will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord for it is HOLY. Because the Holy Communion is such a significant part of our worship, we are to approach it with an attitude of reverence.
In view of this, Paul asked the Corinthians to examine themselves, and so must we. We firmly believe that believers today also need to take a close look at their relationships with others before partaking of the Holy Communion.
The relationship issues we need to resolve include, harboring of bitter feelings against fellow Christians because of something they said or did (unforgiveness).
We believe according to the Bible; Holy Communion is an act of worship and very significant in the Christian life. It reminds us of what Christ did on the cross and looks forward to His return. The frequency of it is not necessarily the important thing,’ as often as you eat’ (1 Corinthians 11:26) but it is the celebration of this ordinance that is important.
And before receiving the Holy Communion we must allow the Holy Spirit to examine our lives. Each time we partake we remind ourselves of what Christ did on the cross remembering that He is coming again. This should motivate us to live holy lives.
9. THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT
All believers are entitled to and should fervently expect and earnestly seek the promise of the Father, the baptism in the Holy Spirit and fire, according to the command of our Lord Jesus Christ. This was the normal experience of all in the early Christian Church.
With it comes the enduement of power for life and service, the bestowment of the gifts and their uses in the work of the ministry and the edification of the body.
- Luke 24:49
- Acts 1:4, 1:8
- 1 Corinthians 12:1-31
This experience is distinct from and after being born again.
- Acts 8:12-17 10:44-46, 11:14-16, 15:7-9.
With the baptism in the Holy Spirit come such experiences as:
- an overflowing fullness of the Spirit, John 7:37-3, Acts 4:8
- a deepened reverence for God, Acts 2:43, Hebrews 12:28
